Equitable Climate Action Team Application - City of Longmont Skip to main content

Thank you for your interest in applying to the Equitable Climate Action Team (ECAT). The ECAT is a City staff led group of community members that assist in implementing equitable climate action through community education, outreach, and the evaluation of City programs to provide feedback. The initiative’s main tasks are:

  1. Learn: Develop a mutually beneficial exchange of information and ideas between City staff and the ECAT.
  2. Engage: Provide feedback to the City on climate action and sustainability programs.
  3. Educate: Assist city staff in engaging and educating the community on equitable climate action.

With the goal of increasing representation from Longmont communities that are disproportionately impacted by climate change, the ECAT targets (but is not limited to) recruitment of members from the following frontline communities who live in Longmont:

  • People with children;
  • People in the mobile home community;
  • Non-English proficient speakers (e.g. Monolingual Spanish speakers);
  • Older adults;
  • People on fixed incomes;
  • Black, Indigenous, People of color;
  • People with disabilities;
  • People who rent;
  • Members of immigrant communities;
  • People in low-to-medium income households..

Things to consider before you apply:

  • Applications will be reviewed and screened by all current ECAT members and the City staff coordinator.
  • Members are asked to commit to two additional hours of volunteer engagements per month that include activities outside of the two-hour monthly meetings, totaling a monthly commitment of four hours.
  • Members are asked to be committed to our meetings and engagements for at least 12 months.
  • Monthly meetings are held in-person on the third Wednesday of the month from 6-8 pm. Optional dinner is provided from 5:30-6 pm.
  • This is considered a volunteer opportunity with the City of Longmont. Participants on the team are not City employees and the City will not be providing any compensation, including worker’s compensation benefits. Program participation support is currently provided by the Longmont Community Foundation in the form of a $80 per month volunteer service award for each member.
  • The volunteer service awards, if available, are intended to defray costs incurred by team members with the aim of encouraging participation in climate action projects by a diverse coalition of community members.

Next Steps: After You Apply

  • If your volunteer application is selected to move forward, the coordinator will contact you to share more details, ask follow-up questions, and invite you to observe an ECAT monthly meeting.
  • Once you have observed a monthly meeting, you will be required to sign the Membership Agreement and attend volunteer orientation before beginning volunteer activities.
