Overview

The City of Longmont employs eight full-time park and watershed rangers and multiple seasonal rangers to protect Union Reservoir, Button Rock Preserve and other City of Longmont parks, open spaces and trails. The core mission of the ranger team includes:

 

  • Search and Rescue
    • Search and Rescue Rangers assist local fire departments and law enforcement agencies in search and rescue operations and perform water rescues of distressed boaters on City waterways.
  • Wildland Firefighting/Prescribed Burns
    • Rangers are trained to support wildfire suppression and prescribed burns on and near City property.
  • Code Enforcement
    • Rangers are responsible for enforcing the City of Longmont Municipal Code on the City’s Public Lands, including park rules, parking regulations and fishing and boating regulations.
  • Education
    • Rangers provide educational guidance to park visitors on recreational activities, rules and regulations, natural ecosystems, and wildlife.
  • Resource Protection
    • Rangers work with Parks, Forestry, and Water Resources staff to keep parks, preserves, open spaces, and trails clean and safe for public use.
  • Homeless Outreach
    • Rangers contact individuals experiencing homelessness on City of Longmont public lands and provide access to resources through the OUR Center and HOPE initiative.

Parks Rules and Regulations

City of Longmont parks, preserves, open spaces and trails are subject to ordinances outlined within the City’s Municipal Code. Parks users are required to abide by the rules and regulations and the set hours for public use. These hours are set for the protection of health, safety and public land resources.
