A metal bench is seen along a greenway in an open space area in Longmont

Parks, Trails and Open Space Division

The City of Longmont has a Memorial Bench Program to remember and pay tribute to loved ones.

Requirements

A metal bench with a bronze plaque is seen in a park on a concrete slab

The City has a digital map with the pre-approved memorial bench locations. Variances for locations already reviewed by staff will not be permitted. The City reserves the right to deny a bench location.

The location of the bench will determine which type of bench the City will install:

  • If the bench location is adjacent to a concrete sidewalk, the City will pour a concrete pad and install a surface mount bench.
  • If the bench location is adjacent to a crusher fine trail or pathway then the City will install an in-ground mount bench.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires the City to provide an accessible route to all bench locations.

The delivery time for benches is about eight weeks. Upon receipt of the bench, the Park Operations division requires a minimum of four weeks for installation, which can be weather dependent. The City is not responsible or accountable for delays in delivery of the bench or installation dates.

The City reserves the right to relocate a memorial bench to accommodate construction, maintenance or any other issues. The City will be considerate in relocating the bench as close as possible to the original location.

Ordering Your Memorial Bench

There are 2 kinds of benches available for purchase:

  • A “Potential” bench, these are the yellow benches on the digital map
  • An “Existing” bench, these are the brown benches on the digital map

Ordering Process

After receiving Memorial Bench application, a member of the Parks Operations team will contact the potential donor with an estimated cost and timeline (please allow 2-3 weeks for estimated costs). If the donor approves, they will pay the balance in full, and the City will order the bench.

  • All plaque designs must be approved by the Parks Manager, or designee, before the donor orders the plaque.
  • Plaques must be purchased by the donor and will be installed by Parks staff.
  • All plaques will be located on the upright back of the bench and not on the bench seat or base.
  • The maximum allowable size for a plaque is 7 inches by 4 inches, cast bronze with raised letters in bronze, and a dark ripple brown background.
