Welcome Teachers!
Supplement your classroom curriculum with one of the Longmont Museum’s high quality, interactive guided school tours and programs. These offerings address “Colorado Model Content Standards” and 21st Century Learning and Innovation Skills such as critical thinking and problem solving, creativity and innovation, communication and collaboration, visual literacy, scientific and numerical literacy and cross-disciplinary thinking. All guided tours and programs are led by trained docents.
You can also book a self-guided tour for class in grades Pre-K-12 or your community group. Be sure to make a reservation; some fees may apply.
School Tour & Program Schedule
We have just completed the prototyping season for a new guided school tour partnership with the St. Vrain School District’s Innovation Center, which we are calling “Longmont: Past, Present, Future. If you would like to book a school tour at the Longmont Museum, please email Curator of Education Ann Macca for more information.
Self-Guided School Tours
Groups of 10 or more must book their visit no less than two weeks in advance. Self-guided tours are available to groups in grades Pre-K-5, middle school, high school and college. These tours are led by school teachers, homeschool parents, or a community group leaders. Anyone leading a self-guided tour is strongly encouraged to visit the Longmont Museum before their scheduled visit in order to make plans. Large groups are asked to divide into smaller groups with chaperones to closely supervise students in grades Pre-K-12. Please fill out and submit a Self-Guided Tour Request Form. Teacher Trunks
The Museum offers a variety of Teacher Trunks (Discovery Kits) to use in your classroom or with your community group. Teacher trunks are available for one week rental at $8 per week. The Art of Chaperoning
We require a minimum of one chaperone per six students for guided tours (unless otherwise instructed by the School Program Coordinator) and one adult per five students on self-guided tours. Please download and distribute “The Art of Chaperoning” PDF (also included in your confirmation email) to all chaperones prior to your field trip to help ensure a quality experience for them as well as for the students.
Guidelines for Museum Behavior
Students have a more enjoyable museum experience when they know what to expect and what is expected of them. Before your visit, please download and review the “Guidelines for Museum Behavior” PDF (also included in your confirmation packet) with all students and chaperones.
Guided tours, self-guided tours, and facilitated programs are offered Monday through Friday, generally at 9:30 am and 1 pm, or as arranged.
Yes, all groups must schedule their visits at least three weeks ahead of time. Tours are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. Please make reservations early. November and mid-April through mid-May are the busiest times.
The Museum requires a minimum of 12 students and a maximum of 30 for all guided tours and programs. You may bring up to three groups of 30 children per visit. If you have more than three groups, we ask that you split up and come on two different days.
No, we do not have Spanish-speaking docents at this time.
There is a fee per student noted in each tour and program description. Teachers and parent chaperones are admitted free. There may be an admission fee for some of the Museum’s special exhibits. For theatrical performances, you must purchase one ticket per person for students, chaperones and teachers.

The Museum accepts cash, credit cards, or check payable to the Longmont Museum at the Museum’s front desk upon arrival.
With the addition of the new Stewart Auditorium, the Museum now has an indoor and outdoor space for students to eat lunch! If you choose to eat lunch at the Longmont Museum, plan to eat picnic-style on the ground. During bad weather the auditorium’s atrium is available. You must make arrangements for your students to eat lunch at the Museum at the time of your booking. Without prior notice we do not guarantee the availability of lunch facilities.
Yes, the Museum galleries and courtyard are wheelchair accessible. Please inform us when booking your tour if any of your students have special needs.
Yes. Parking information and directions will be sent to you along with your tour confirmation materials.
We ask that students do not take photographs during their guided program. In general, visitors may take photographs in the galleries as long as no flash, lights, or tripod are used. Please be respectful of others who may not want their photos taken.
